Progress Jiu Jitsu Month in Review - September 2024
Posted by James Tighe onWe are looking forward to the final quarter of the year. At Progress we are getting ready for the big BFCM event coming next month. We have also been focused on some new projects which are in the works and will be ready for next year. September was a bit of a calm before the storm with the final couple big tournaments of the year. Checkout what you missed from last month and have a peak of what is to come!
The new pro league based in Italy kicked off its finals card for 2024 with four star studded brackets. Male and Female featured a lightweight and heavyweight bracket. Stars came from all over the world to compete for the 10,000 Euro prize. On the women's side, Gamila Kanew of ZR team took home the gold in both the lightweight and heavyweight divisions. She scored some impressive subs along the way against a tough field. Much more to come for the seasoned veteran who improves in each outing.
Lucas Lira scored the prize money in the Male Heavyweight bracket. Scoring both a 22 second and last second heel hook win on his way to the title. The Brazilian was also awarded best submission for his efforts. The 2023 brown belt world champion looked comfortable and in control all evening, expect big things coming soon. On the Lightweight side, our very own Tarik Hopstock got back to his winning ways and scored yet another gold medal for his collection. The Norwegian displayed his world class guard along with his submission focused style to score some hard fought submission victories against a tough field.
Big congratulations to the athletes, coaches and organizers who put on a great evening on BJJ. Wishing you all the best and can’t wait to see the next event!

On the competition teams side we had Carson Coles and Cam Donnelly score standout performances on Polaris, Melissa Mullins turned heads with her effort on WWF Invitational, Nikkodem And Christian Ozbek traveled to Kuwait for the ADCC Open there and scored gold and finally, the team smashed it at Gorilla Invitational in Manchester. Way to represent, and keep up the good work!
