Progress Jiu Jitsu Month in Review- May 2024

“Time flies when you are having fun!” This year is absolutely flying by. This month was no different. We dropped the Unknown Wave collection at the start of the month and finished the month with the release of the M6 Mark 6 Olive Green. In between we did some super cool shoots in studio, gyms, Gorilla Invitational and at Empire’s Grand Prix. Read below to review the past month in the world of BJJ and at Progress Jiu Jitsu

In the world of BJJ

  • WNO 23 Meregali vs Rocha- WNO held another stellar night of grappling. The Texas crowd was treated to an awesome main event between veteran Vagner Rocha and phenom Nicholas Meregali. Meregali was at the top of the Gi world when he switched to No Gi. In the absence of his teammate Gordan Ryan from competition, it can be said that he is the top current No Gi competitor. In the match with Rocha, Meregali displayed his complete game, especially with his dominance in the hand fight from the feet. When the match hit the ground Meregali got the back control before locking in an armbar to finish things off. In the co-main event, rising star Andrew Tackett choked Norwegian legend Tommy Langaker with a RNC. Nicky Ryan faced off against 2x ADCC champion JT torres. After some action of the feet, the competitors hit the mat, with Nicky being able to finish of the American legend with a footlocker. Also on the card Jasmine Rocha and Diogo Reis picked up wins in their matches.
  • AIGA Brazil 2024- In a really special evening, Kasai Team dominated, winning all of its 21 matches, with 20 wins coming via submission. The win takes the team into the event final which will take place next year. Winner of the main event will win one million dollars. Roberto Jimenez showed his beautiful style of Jiu Jitsu all night. Dorain Olivarez continued to impress, while veterans Fabricio Andrey, Pedro Marinho and Renato Canuto were on point as ever.

  • IBJJF World Championship- Still one of the most important events of the year despite the rise of the No Gi events. The worlds kicked off on May 30th and will continue into the first week of June. If you get a chance to watch the matches, especially the black belt finals. It is one of the most special environments in Jiu Jitsu.
  • All things Progress Jiu Jitsu

As mentioned we had a great month of new products with the Olive Green M6 and the Unknown Wave. Big shout out to our guy Cal, we had a blast at the HQ studio making some fun content. Congrats to Tommy and Jess for representing Gorilla and Intergrappling. Finally, congratulations to Big Sam for smashing it at the Empire event.

    • Coming soon!-  Summertime is always the best, even if it is only 2 weeks long here in the UK. This summer we are launching our first pair of swim trunks, they will drop in June. Also in June we are releasing some cool No Gi items.
